This is fieldfoxes older cousin : the viavi jdsu jd785b the flagship of all the different variations and the most recent of them! Even the new versions don’t include all the options that come with this model!

8 ghz spectrum analyzer

6 ghz cat / simplified vna 2 port

6 ghz signal generator (untethered to the spec an center freq! ) completely independent and simultaneous use!!!

Power meter using sensors

And different standards measuring utilities. Etc….

Basically nearly everything the highly coveted rare  fieldfox can do but for a whole helluva lot cheaper!

The precision is not gonna be as good as a fieldfox but it is real good when You learn how to use it proper.  :::

The power readings are very accurate  everywhere like new as shown (cw signal generator swept all the way to 6 ghz where it stops as shown in pics) you can see that the power goes down at different steps. This is normal and perfectly to spec as shown! Very flat and killer performance! No wonder this was over 30k $ usd new! It’s not as precise as a fieldfox but it’s 1/4 the price. It does respond at the same speed tho, unlike the pesky Anritsus who outperform everyone in phase noise but take a million years to respond!

We have all of these handhelds available for sale so we know the strengths and weaknesses. If interested in a different model inquire! We collect them all! We have about 6 of the viavis! We use them here in the lab all the time once we realized how accurate they were after changing the detector type! Lol!

It’s super precise when set to peak detector. It defaults to avg detector so watch out for that! You can make it power on as the last state you set luckily!

. The sweep speeds better on the vna part when set to less points.

It calibrates with a standard cal kit 6 ghz.

I can provide one for an additional 300$ if you need one.

Also I have 3 or 4 of these with different option combos but they all have high power signal generator cw to 6 ghz., vna/cat, and 8 ghz spec an. And gps  plus 2 port measurment options for the vna magnitude . If you need other options just ask! I’ll tell you what I got .

This unit has extremely low hours on it! Passes all self tests and full calibration! Display looks new and it’s a touch screen!!! Just like the coveted rare expensive ms2720T by anritsu. Which is triple the cost.

This is a jdsu viavi jd785B the later model than the A which isn’t nearly as good.  Maxed out with the best options!

Comes calibrated with cert and sticker . 2 yr interval on these.

Frequency is precise for a little thing.it has a nice motion oxco in there . Ive seen inside one ! (Not this one as it’s never been opened)  And the B model is much newer and includes accurate and nearly identical timebases between the independent sig gen and spec an. Unlike the A model that is way off between the two. On the A model the sig gen is way out in left field!! Which isn’t a problem if you’re zoomed out a bit always but when you need to analyze close in or use the freq count mode, it’s a major concern and very inaccurate so it’s a good thing this is a B model!

((((I have the B model in 4 ghz flavor for 1000$ off if interested. That one has a 4 ghz spec an and 4 ghz vna /cat analyzer.))))

This one 8 ghz one  has a 1 channel (2 port) vna /cable /antenna tester 6 GHz and a 8 GHz spectrum analyzer in one! Pretty sweet combination!

Plus a full fledged signal generator with cw and tracking generator to 6 GHz!  That is a rarity with handhelds!

Plus it’s got optical functions like power meter, and capability for a fiber and connector inspection camera as shown! You will need to buy the cam itself to use it however.

It’s got gps for semi permanent auto adjusting freq accuracy and location finding. It’s got a million other functions see option list!

My fav use is the dual capability simultaneous cw signal generator paired with spectrum analyzer function so it’s perfect for troubleshooting systems where you need to insert a signal and check the if out . Nothing beats it other than a fieldfox which are 6 times the price!

For this function we have 3 of these in our repair lab. . .. I do have the fieldfox for sale as well but it’s quadruple  the cost. They usually get 11k for a 6 gigger that has the same functionality this one has.just more refined .

We like these in our labs because of the versatility for the price. It’s unmatched ! We’ve researched  and calibrated all the handhelds and these are the best for the price!

I’ve got Anritsu 3 ghz touchscreens too for 1800$. And a 32 gigger touch for 12k$. A 20 ghz Anritsu for 6000$, some agilents for 2-3000$.  And a rohde 20 ghz with track gen to 8 ghz for 9000$. And some rohde 2 giggers for 2k also touchscreen but the viavi outperforms the rohdes at phase noise .. so you got some choices. And we’re always getting more handhelds in so hit us up for more info!!!

You should know that the biggest  selling point for me is the ability to generate a 1 Mhz to 6 ghz signal generator while operating a different range on the spectrum analyzer. And no one but the fieldfox can do this!

It comes in handy because it’s like using it for two completely different functions simultaneously eliminating the need for two separate battery powered machines( and hand held sig gens with interfaces are super rare. But this allows you to connect  an IF or main signal into a system and tap off a different IF output simultaneously. There’s nothing more handy in troubleshooting! Trust me!  Especially troubleshooting microwave test equipment which is our main use . But the possibilities are endless with this combo!

Fyi the vna is not a full 2 port vna with switching .

While it does have the 2 port option, it just has 1 way (no switching) which is perfect for most people on a handheld anyways.
